Database Developer
Data Systems Developer Responsibilities: To assist in the maintenance and development of the in-house reporting and data collection systems. These all have Microsoft SQL Server back ends. Front ends are primarily MS Access, with reporting via MS Access and SQL Server Reporting Services. To develop new systems to provide information feeds for wider systems, including the web site and intranet. This includes the development of browser based front end solutions to replace existing MS Access front ends. To generate reports and analysis based on data held in the database and other related data sources using SQL Server. To assist with the development of new data and information systems, including the provision of data feeds for wider systems such as the web site and intranet. To undertake data cleansing and archiving as required. To document data systems, including the maintenance of the systems catalogue and data dictionary. To provide second line support for data-related helpdesk requests. To assist with the support of related IT systems, as required. Key Skills: Strong SQL Server skills including T-SQL scripting Creation of tables, views and stored procedures. Securing databases: management of logins, users and permission Backing up and restoring databases Good working knowledge of MS Access, including reports, forms, queries, macros, VBA. Good working knowledge of SSRS Working knowledge of MS Visual Studio Experience of related database tools would be an advantage, e.g. SSIS Experience of other related technologies would be an advantage: e.g. HTML, .net programming Excellent analytical skills, in particular the ability to critically analyse existing systems, and to contribute to the planning of new and improved systems. An openness to change, in particular to respond positively to changing technical requirements. A high level of general IT skills, including word processing and spreadsheets Working knowledge of database theory and practice Organisation and time management, in particular to plan complex processes to meet multiple demanding deadlines. Flexibility and teamwork, in particular to work flexibly as part of a team and to devise plans to support colleagues.
